Dry electrode technology is currently one of the advanced manufacturing technologies for lithium-ion batteries, and the dry roller pressing process is the key to this process. Continuous dry rolling pressing equipment only needs to form a high-performance dry electrode film with high density and uniform surface by multi-stage rolling of mixed electrode raw materials, and then form a dense and uniform thickness electrode film by hot pressing with the collector.
1、 Overview about wet coating to make the electrode:
The electrodes of lithium-ion batteries are usually made using a coating or slurry casting process (wet process). The problem with making electrodes using wet methods is:
1. Consuming a large amount of energy to remove solvents;
2. There is residual solvent in the coated electrode, which may reduce the battery life;
3. The adhesive dissolved on the surface of the active material will increase the battery resistivity, thereby reducing the energy density and power density of the lithium battery;
4. The low density of electrode compaction is due to the fact that the fluid collecting foil is prone to deformation and wrinkling when subjected to enormous pressure, which limits the pressure of the roller press;
5. Low density leads to low energy density, high resistance, and low cycle life.
Continuous rolling to make the dry electrode:
1. The process is simple, the electrode is thicker, solvation free, and there is no drying process;
2. The adhesive exists in the fiber state, and the contact between activated carbon particles and conductive agent particles is closer. The electrode density is high, the conductivity is good, the capacity is high, the carbon powder is not easy to fall off, and the cycle life is long;
3. Environmentally friendly;
4. Save production costs such as materials, time, and labor.
